For the post of Agriculture Specialist, the U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is currently accepting applications from suitably qualified candidates.

Role: Agricultural Expert

Conditions:

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in international trade, agriculture, agribusiness, food and agricultural marketing, or agricultural economics is necessary.
EXPERIENCE: The minimum requirement for Grade LE 10 is four years of work experience in one or more of the following areas: marketing analysis/research, agricultural economics, agricultural policy, and commodity trading, focusing on in-depth analysis and report writing on challenging topics.

The minimum requirements for Grade LE 11 are five years of work experience in one or more of the following areas: marketing analysis/research, agricultural economics, agricultural policy, commodity trading, and substantial study and report writing on difficult issues.

LANGUAGE: Fluent, Level 4. Writing, reading, and speaking English are necessary. (This may be put to the test.)

• Level 3: Proficiency in functional knowledge It is necessary to be able to read, write, and speak Arabic, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Kiswahili, or any other African language (this may be tested)
Representing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Addis Ababa to the African Union is the responsibility of the Agricultural expert (mid-level expert).
For designated agricultural commodities, the incumbent tracks, evaluates, and drafts highly specialised reports on developments in trade, marketing, and agriculture. In addition, duties include managing market development initiatives, resolving trade complaints, and assisting U.S. and African Union government agencies and businesses with concerns pertaining to non-compliance with import laws from the latter.
The incumbent cultivates and upholds important social and professional connections at the mid-to-high levels in order to obtain cooperation on important trade and agriculture policy issues and to share information.

Pay Range: $19,728 to USD 43,420 annually Position(s): Addis Ababa, ET
