Concerning Samaritan’s Purse

A nondenominational evangelical Christian charity, Samaritan’s Purse offers both material and spiritual assistance to those in need all around the world. Samaritan’s Purse has been providing aid to victims of famine, disease, natural disasters, war, poverty, and other tragedies since 1970. Since October 8, 2018, Samaritan’s Purse has been officially recognized as a foreign charity, allowing it to participate in humanitarian efforts in Ethiopia.

SUMMARY OF JOB

Currently, six IDP camps in Shire, Tigray—BGI, Preparatory, Five Angels, Recreation Center, Guna, and Mai Dimu—are home to the Samaritan’s Purse (SP) WASH Program. In IDP camps, the project aims to support basic sanitation and hygiene services as well as supply clean water. By expanding pipelines from the main water pipeline in Shire to the camps, Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia (SPE) will provide clean water access to three IDP camps. More community responsibility for maintaining sanitation and hygiene will be encouraged in the five camps that SP previously assisted by implementing more participatory approaches to sanitation and hygiene support. Along with this, desludging services and infrastructure upkeep related to sanitation will be provided. At the designated area, the WASH Assistant is responsible for managing the water system, sanitation, and hygiene promotion initiatives.

ESSENTIAL OBLIGATIONS

carries out evaluations and reports as needed

oversee the building or upkeep of the water system and sanitation; and Verify the quality and functionality by the materials breakdown and BOQ.
Assist WUC, water supply system operators, and technicians with the appropriate technical support.

acts as the primary focus of initiatives aimed at promoting hygiene

carries out instruction on the upkeep and operation of water systems, launches dramatic advertising, and increases public knowledge of PHAST, WASH’EM, and toilet usage.

contributes significantly to identifying opportunities and lessons gained for communities on impediments to hygiene promotion and to local gatherings.

identifies and analyzes barriers to hygiene practices

collaborates closely with regional partners in the Woreda, offering instruction, assisting with TOT training, and making follow-up visits.

Publishes a weekly report to the supervisor detailing field operations
The supervisor may assign additional tasks.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, water engineering, public health, or a related field a degree in a relevant field
Experience working on WASH projects for two or three years; INGO work experience desired

LANGUAGE

It is necessary to speak Amharic, Tigrinya, and English fluently.
