GOAL is a non-profit organization that has been working in Ethiopia for over 30 years in all regions of the country to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable people in our world, as well as those affected by humanitarian crises, have access to basic human rights such as adequate shelter, food and livelihoods, water and sanitation, nutrition, healthcare, and education. GOAL undertakes a variety of multi-sectoral development, resilience, recovery, and humanitarian response programmes while remaining sensitive to cross-cutting problems like as gender, accountability, child protection, and HIV/AIDS.

The Nutrition Officer is responsible for implementing the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) methodology and guidelines in the allocated nutrition center/refugee camp.
Key Areas of Accountability and Duties
Key Duties and Task List
- Maintain quality standards across all programs, including SC, OTP, TSFP, IYCF, C-MAMI, BSFP, community outreach, and nutritional diversity.
- Conduct daily clinical and physical examinations on children referred to the community management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) initiative.
- Follow CMAM medical protocols while administering routine or supplementary medications to OTP and SC youngsters.
- Ensure medical methods align with the Federal Minister of Health’s SAM treatment guidelines.
- Collaborate with community engagement, nutrition, and refugee incentive workers to conduct weekly, bimonthly, or monthly MUAC or two-step screenings.
- Ensure inpatient nutrition protocols are followed and implemented correctly.
- Maintain excellent hygiene standards in SC/OTP/TSFP/IYCF, waiting/screening rooms, and Blanket Supplementary feeding rooms.
- Collaborate with community engagement and nutrition officers to deliver regular health and nutrition education sessions in OTP/TSFP/BSFP/IYCF and SC programs. Give serious consideration to the children admitted to SC.
- Refer children to TSFP/OTP or SC programs according to national/international protocols, taking into account all referral criteria.
- Focus on understanding the C-MAMI program.
- Coordinate with the community engagement officer supervisor to trace and follow up on absentees, defaulters, stagnant weights, and weight loss cases.
- Help establish and manage stabilization centers and outpatient treatment programs for nutrition programs.
- Collaborate with Community Engagement officers to enhance their abilities to identify and address malnutrition, educate target groups, and refer persons as needed.
- Collaborate with IYCF officers on outreach and center-based IYCFP activities.
- Ensure correct item distribution formats and timely submission of paperwork (BDRS).
- Ensure daily tally sheets are completed and program records (registration book, tally sheets, and reports) are properly stored.
- Submit timely monthly and weekly statistical reports to the project manager.
- Submit monthly narrative reports to the Project Manager on schedule, following the GE reporting form.
Capacity Building
- Provide training and refresher sessions for nutrition assistants, incentives, and COAs to address severe acute malnutrition effectively.
- Supervise nutrition assistants and incentives in the Stabilization Center (SC) and outpatient therapy, BSFP program.
- Collaborate with the project manager to share lessons learned with other partners and stakeholders.
- Coach and mentor nutrition assistants to ensure accurate measurements and registrations.
- Collaborate with the community engagement officer to identify and refer non-responding youth to the Stabilization Center (SC).
- Ensure timely and accurate distribution of routine and supplementary medications to the intended target group.
- Share information and lessons with partners and agencies at the camp level.
- Ensure effective resource usage and program accountability.
- Liaise with the community. Volunteers to ensure that thorough community engagement, mobilisation, health education, and treatment are carried out in accordance with the recommendations.
- Ensure clear and consistent communication with caretakers, community groups, leaders, and authorities.
- Assist stakeholders/partners in preparing training for significant figures in the community, such as healers, religious leaders, and prominent groups.
- Assist the project manager-refugee with additional responsibilities as needed.
- \tDocument and file any essential information about the targeted group by Donor requirements, and make it easily available.
- Respect the dignity of target groups, careers, and community members.
- Liaise with the community. Volunteers guarantee that extensive community outreach, mobilization, health education, and treatment are carried out under the requirements. Ensure that all communications to careers, community groups, leaders, and authorities are consistent and well-understood.
