Ethiopian Statistical Service 43,500 Job Position

Concerning the Ethiopian Statistical Service
For a nation to accelerate its economic, social, and democratic activities as well as to improve the lives of its citizens, statistical data that has been gathered and prepared using scientific procedures is essential. Furthermore, these data let the government and other organizations create regulations for different industries, track and assess how well those policies are being implemented, and make future choices with knowledge.

The Ethiopian Statistics Service (ESS) gathers information from administrative records, censuses, and sample surveys. It also analyzes the data and produces reports for a range of audiences. Furthermore, to help government agencies, institutions, and individuals establish administrative recording, registration, and reporting systems and to develop the capacity necessary to provide directives and consultations on the development of administrative records and registration systems, the ESS also offers technical guidance and assistance. The ESS generally leads the nation’s statistics system.

The ESS is upgrading the use of technology in its data collecting, compilation, categorization, analysis, and distribution procedures in addition to diversifying its statistical approaches to uphold globally recognized standards and meet the excessive demands for statistical data.

This brochure intends to emphasize the significance of data that is obtained via a variety of methods in addition to outlining the vision, purpose, goals, roles, and responsibilities of ESS.

Context

Even though Ethiopia has long been a center of statistics research, the creation of an organized system in the late 1950s was partly driven by the need for statistical data at the time for the creation of socioeconomic programs. Furthermore, the African Economic Commission hosted a meeting for statisticians from African nations in 1952. Participants at this conference agreed to present a five-year statistical action plan, which urged our nation to develop a more structured statistical system. The Central Statistics Authority and the Population Census Commission were reestablished in 2006 and 2007, respectively, thanks to proclamations that played a vital role in developing the statistical framework that ESS now uses.

When the Counsel of Ministries was formed in 2007 by decree 471/98, the office was given the name Central Statistics Agency. With 14 professional employees, ESS was founded in 1959 under the Minister of Trade and Industry’s direction. Due to the variety of research carried out, ESS now employs 3000 temporary workers in addition to 2439 full-time specialists who engage in a variety of tasks. In addition, ESS maintains 25 branch offices across the country to carry out its obligations.
